8. Not in a Million Years

I don’t know how I let York talk me into going out to a club tonight. I haven’t been to a club since that shit went down with DC at the Second Wind. But supposedly, the club where York was taking me was a drama-free environment. It’s this spot called Club 504 in the Arena District of downtown Columbus. In other words, it’s in an area where the diehard Buckeye fans hang out, white people. But it was mostly frequented by blacks.

It was called Club 504 because 504 is the address. An older black gentleman who knew how to run a respectable business had bought out this particular club. He didn’t even have to put up a dress code sign. One just knew when stopping off in there to dress classy. It was pretty much a twenty-five and older crowd so I figured I could work with it.

I had just taken out the choker rhinestone necklace from my grandmother’s jewelry box and put it around my neck when I heard York pull up. I could hear the bass in his car-stereo system. It had never sounded that loud before. He must have been geeking himself up to go out.

As York knocked on the door, I grabbed the little silver chain link evening purse that matched the dress that I was wearing, then I answered it.

When I opened the door I could see how beautiful I was in York’s eyes. His mouth dropped open and his eyes got hungry, like he hadn’t eaten in weeks and was about to sop me up with a biscuit.

I must admit, I was looking quite ravishing. Morgan talked me into buying this little silver one shoulder dress from Lazarus. It was knitted, like a chain link fence, and fringes hung down at the bottom. And can you believe it? The dress was cut well above my knee. It was far from a churchgoing dress. I had on some three inch strappy slide-ins that I planned on leaving on while I fucked York tonight.

The rhinestone necklace I was wearing had a matching bracelet that I used as an anklet and of course the matching teardrop earrings were so necessary. I wasn’t wearing a ponytail that night. I had talked the owner of Scizzors Hair Salon, Terri Deal, to stay late and do my hair. She obliged me and I tipped her fifteen dollars for doing so. Not to mention she laid my hair out.

She had given me a spiral curl roller set. She had put three soft and fluffy corn rolls in the front and on the top of my head to keep my hair out of my face. She had permed it up nicely so it was definitely bouncing and behaving. And as always, the cosmetics were flawless. Tonight, instead of just clear lip gloss, I had on a sandy sable colored lip gloss. There were no words to describe my appearance that night. I think that was the best I had looked in my entire life.
